The Alberta Hospice Palliative Care Association (AHPCA) endeavors to be the voice of the palliative care consumers, professionals and volunteers in Alberta. We believe that all Albertans have the right to equitable access to end-of-life care, and we promote participation through the building of partnerships, collaboration and innovation.
Your membership in the AHPCA automatically entitles you to membership with the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association(CHPCA). As a member you will receive palliative care updates, seasonal newsletters, reduced conference and workshop rates, and an opportunity to add your voice to our advocacy efforts on behalf of all Albertans.
AHPCA Speaks Out
AHPCA is working towards raising awareness of end-of-life issues in many different ways:
AHPCA organizes radio and newspaper interviews throughout Alberta, including province-wide CBC radio.
- In April 2010 we launched our first annual Rural Roadshow and since then we have brought palliative care workshops to many small centres throughout Alberta.
- Active letter writing, networking, phone calls and hard work by our Board has set the stage for AHPCA to influence the palliative care planning process.
- AHPCA is the Secretariat for the QELCCA – which is a coalition of non-government provincial-wide organizations that support the principle of quality end-of-life care for all Albertans. This groups works together to influence change.
- AHPCA has met with both Provincial and Federal Advisory Committees, and we have submitted several reports and recommendations which can be viewed on this website under the ‘Reports’ header.
As an Alberta wide association, our task is to represent our members and all Albertans, including patients and their families, professionals and volunteers. In our efforts to educate and to be inclusive, we have been listening and talking to Albertans across the province. Your views are important.
