Hospice Calgary’s professionally facilitated grief support groups (Kids Club and Common Ground) and our Drop-In groups (The Hangout and The Village) bring together peers who face similar issues, share their experience of grief, support and learn from each other.
Kids Club is an 8-week evening grief group for children in grades 1-6 and a simultaneous group for their parents/caregivers. These groups are for families who are bereaved after a death related to illness, sudden medical events, accidents, suicide, overdoses and any other circumstances. Facilitated by Children’s Grief Centre counsellors and trained volunteers, Kids Club provides opportunities for children to explore their grief as they gather with others who are grieving.
Common Ground is an 8-week evening group for teens in grades 7-12 offers a safe place for participants to explore their grief experiences with their peers. This group is for teens who are bereaved after a death related to illness, sudden medical events, accidents, suicide, overdoses and any other circumstances. Co-facilitated by Children’s Grief Centre counsellors and trained volunteers, Common Ground includes Topics of discussion such as: what is grief and its holistic impact, coping strategies, memory sharing, and family changes, both immediate and long term as a result of loss.
