This session will focus on improving the quality of living and dying for infants, children and youth with life-threatening conditions and their families. The topic will have a focus on early integration of pediatric palliative care, as well as pain management.
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
Describe differences between provision of palliative care to children and adults
Describe the spectrum of care provided to children
Understand how to manage pain in children using validated tools
This session is accredited by the College of Family Physicians and is valid for 1.5 Mainpro-M1 credits.
Presented by: Christina Vadeboncoeur
Dr. Vadeboncoeur is an Associate Investigator at the CHEO Research Institute and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. She is a pediatrician who practices in pediatric palliative care. Dr. Vadeboncoeur is involved in clinical research in pediatric palliative care. She is site lead coordinator in a Canadian Institutes of Health Research-funded multicenter trial looking at the trajectory of children with life-limiting illness and the impact on their families. She is also a co-investigator in a Canadian Institutes of Health Research-funded project on dissemination of palliative care knowledge.
