Airdrie – Grief Support for Ages 14-16
November 17 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pmFREE
Airdrie teens experiencing grief will have access to a new support program next month offered by the Airdrie and District Hospice Society.
Designed for youth aged 14 to 16 years old, the Grief Support Program for Teens follows curriculum from Rainbows for All Children Canada, an organization that specializes in developing curriculum and training facilitators for children experiencing loss. Three Airdrie facilitators have been trained to assist children and youth with appropriate coping mechanisms as they process their grief.
“This program will respond to a very important need among youth in Airdrie,” said Daria Skibington-Roffel, president of the Society. “Bereavement is difficult at any point in life, but when teenagers experience loss, it can be especially tough. There are currently no grief programs in Airdrie geared specifically toward youth which is why we are initiating this program, accessible to teens within their own community.”
She added that the Hospice Society hopes it will be able to provide these grief support sessions to other age groups in the future — and in person — once the pandemic subsides.
One-hour sessions will be conducted via Zoom on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 pm beginning November 17th and running until February 2nd. The program has been funded by AltaLink, through proceeds from its 2019 Birdies for Kids fundraiser at the annual Shaw Charity Classic Pro Golf Tournament.
