Roadshow – Living with a Ghost: Dementia and Ambiguous Loss

October 20 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Understand ambiguous loss and dementia and how to best support yourself and others through the experience.

What is ambiguous loss? Dementia is a disease of losses. Participants will gain a basic understanding of dementia and the losses that can occur, including the progression of ambiguous loss. The presentation will cover why it is important to understand ambiguous loss and dementia and how we can best support ourselves and others through the experience of ambiguous loss, with case examples provided.

Sarah Karesa is a Registered Psychologist who provides individual and group counselling to individuals of all ages who are grieving. She joined the team at Pilgrims Hospice Society in January 2016. Inspired and influenced from a young age by her grandmother, a long-time Pilgrims volunteer, Sarah volunteered for the Pilgrims Day Program and the Expressive Arts program for six years prior to her employment, developing her passion for helping others, especially those who are grieving. Outside of Pilgrims, Sarah can be found reading a good book or engaging in some sort of art activity. Sarah can also be found teaching graduate courses as an associate professor in counselling psychology at City University of Seattle.

This online workshop may be used for Continuing Education credits.
