Thursday Evening Online Grief Support Group

A new online grief support program will be offered to people in Airdrie and the surrounding area
early next year.
The Airdrie and District Hospice Society is pleased to be offering the program free of charge for
adults grieving the loss of a loved one. The program, which is designed for small groups of adults,
will be run by trained volunteer facilitators and will use the Alberta Health Service’s curriculum
developed by Bob Glasgow.
This Christmas with health restrictions may be tougher than previous years for many of us. The
Hospice Society recognises that this may be even more difficult for those who are coping with
the death of someone close to them.
“Dealing with grief is a very personal experience,” noted Dr. Derick Dewaal, a board member with
the Hospice Society. “Those who are bereaved may benefit from being in a compassionate,
supportive environment where they are given some tools to help them move forward in a healthy
In order to keep participants safe, the program has been modified from its traditional in-person
format and will be held online via Zoom. Meetings will be held Thursday evenings from 6:30 to
7:45 pm beginning on January 7th and running until February 25, 2021.
