Roadshow: Palliative Care Training for the Community

The AHPCA recognizes the continuing need for community palliative care volunteer training in rural and remote areas throughout Alberta.

The AHPCA is interested in partnering with local community groups to provide a palliative care training program for volunteers and caregivers in communities across Alberta.

The Palliative Care Training for the Community program follows the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association Training Program which is a recognized standard across Canada. The training program is two-days long and will be offered in-person and at no cost to attendees.

Goals of the Palliative Care Training for the Community program

  • To provide accessible palliative care training for volunteers, caregivers, and community members throughout Alberta to facilitate the provision of quality support services in any setting, whether in hospice, care centres, or a private home.
  • To provide palliative care training opportunities for volunteers including current volunteers, caregivers, and community members interested in volunteering in hospice palliative care.
  • To build awareness and engage community members in hospice palliative care in communities outside of the major urban centres.
  • To build community capacity and influence attitudes regarding palliative care in Alberta, by working towards developing a community approach where palliative care is everyone’s responsibility.
  • To empower people attending the training to go back to their communities to  share gained knowledge in volunteer training and support communities.
  • To bring people together who care about palliative care and create volunteer  opportunities within the community and surrounding areas.
